Is it just me, or does the quality and intelligence of football conversation drop significantly between signing day and spring practice?

"my conference can beat up your conference."

"our 18 year old half wit signees are better than your 18 year half wit signees."

Stafford's NFL prospects

Coming out of high school, Matt Stafford was annointed by Mel Kipper as a future #1 draft pick in the NFL. We'll find out in a few months whether or not that prediction is accurate, but it won't be far off.

But what has Stafford done in his college career to earn that lofty draft status?

I am pretty good buddies with a guy who is a scout for an NFL team. Here are his knocks on Stafford:

I'm a college football junkie.

In my book, there's just nothing else that comes close.

We've got just over 3 weeks till National Signing Day, which is the real news in post January football. 3 weeks and then the long wait begins.

Its the worst time of the year.

Conference allegiance is crap

You don't play for a conference. You play for a team.

It kills me watching all the "SEC fans" rooting for UF. You really think this helps your team somehow? Yep, those 5 star recruits are really gonna start lining up for the chance to play against florida in jacksonville. Give me a break.

OK, that said, I do have to admit that I think the Bowl Season did give some insight into the conference dominance argument.

Erk Russell was Georgia's defensive coordinator during the 1980 national championship season.

He was one of the great motivators of all time. A thousand articles could be written about the amazing ways he inspired his players to play better than they would have thought capable.

One my favorite quotes, which may have been coined by someone else, but was often used by Coach Russell:

"You know what a Consultant is don't you? It's someone who knows a 100 different sex positions but doesn't know any women."

I know full well that just about every sports fan in the world thinks that the "media" doesn't give their team enough respect. Well, count me in with that crowd, but with one major difference: I'M ACTUALLY RIGHT. If I didn't think I was right, wouldn't be much point in blogging now would there.

My long researched, thoroughly documented, and totally unbiased opinion is that Georgia rarely gets much love from the media. (Though this off-season is definitely an exception). That other sports station / website that shall remain nameless but who's initials are ESPN seems to be the worst culprit. Lou "Spittin" Holtz picks UGA to loose just about every week. Mark May also finds a way to make a completely ridiculous upset prediction about the Dawgs every year - while never actually being right.

So these 2 rednecks are tailgating before a Georgia game and they see a crowd of folks nearby. They walk over to see what's going on and there in the middle of the crowd is the Georgia mascot, UGA VI. UGA is sitting on the ground with one leg hiked up in the air and he's licking his testicular region.

One of the fella's says, "Doggone wish i could do that."

The other fella says, "Hell no you don't. He'd bite your nose off."
